Book Review: Island

Island by Aldous Huxley was, I thought, better than Brave New World. More of a commentary on political systems than a novel, it tells the story of the people of the island of Pala; a Utopian community in which everyone is happy and commercialisation has no place. At the same time, Huxley manages to paint a realistic picture of a community, which ultimately of course means that there is no happy ending.

A very good book though, and one that should probably be read in all schools alongside Plato’s Republic.
