I just posted this on my Instagram and then I decided to post it on here as well.
Here’s the thing: I write a lot about quitting your day job, grasping life by the balls, doing what you want to do. And then I look online and I see comments from people who are like “Well who the fuck are you to tell me to quit my day job? What if I’m ALREADY making good decisions, they’re just not the ones you’d make?”
The thing is, I completely agree. Are you happy with your job? Great. Don’t quit. Have you decided to prioritise something else, like raising a family (something I couldn’t begin to presume to comment on), and so you’re working a job you don’t love because there are other, more important things in your life? Great. Keep doing that.
But I think a lot of life comes down to decisions like this one, which Amanda Palmer put so eloquently in her latest blog post.
So the next time you make a decision, ask yourself this question: Am I going to be the kind of person who does X, or the kind of person who does Y?
You might make a decision to change nothing, or to change everything. It might be a big decision, or a little decision. It might be one I’d agree with, it might not. It doesn’t fucking matter.
What does matter is that you get to decide the kind of person you’re going to be.
So, who will you be?
