The Palm by Whispering Angel 2017

The whole Kensington wine community is drinking Whispering Angel, or so it seems. Jeroboams are tweeting about it, my friends have it in their houses, Whole Foods had it on offer… yet still I hadn’t tried it.

I’m not a big rosé person really, but sometimes in the summer you want something in between white and red. And the other day my friend came over, and I asked her what kind of wine she wanted, and she said ‘pink’. So I went to the corner shop and picked up a bottle of Whispering Angel’s The Palm, based purely on the label.

It is a very nice label, the kind that seems to say “I am a wine for picnics and pools.” We were planning to lie in the park eating chips, so this seemed like a good accompaniment, and it was.

It’s quite citrusy: a bit of pink grapefruit and a lot of strawberry. It tastes of summer, which is the best time to drink it. And we were right: it pairs nicely with chips in the park.

What are your favourite summery wines?
