The latest instalment in a series in which I answer the ongoing question “How do you fit it all in?”, which people ask me when I tell them what I do.
My mother was here for the bank holiday weekend, but on Monday she went to Sussex to see some friends, so I spent the day doing thrilling things like running payroll and filling out a VAT return. I started work at 7am and didn’t finish until 10.30pm, but I got a lot done which was good.
On Tuesday I ran some errands in the morning after work, then headed over to the garden centre for lunch. I took with me a book I’m currently working on – I’m sensitivity reading it because it has Romani characters, and I’m also editing it for UK accuracy. It’s written by an author who’s based in the USA, but it’s set in England, so there are some cultural things that are a bit different.
I went from the garden centre to Westfield, then home, where I had a bath and started reading another book which is due for review on here shortly.
Wednesday was a fairly straightforward day: online work in the morning, offline work in the afternoon, then swimming in the evening and straight to bed when I got home. Thursday began upside-down; normally I’m home in the morning but out a lot in the afternoons, but since I could see the sun was strengthening throughout the morning I headed out first thing to do some grocery shopping and then started work when I got home. I had a lot of calls in the afternoon, but managed to fit a sneaky swimming session in between two of them. The evening’s work involved more sensitivity reading of the book with Romani characters, then reading a book for review on the blog.
I went to bed and fell asleep quite quickly, but didn’t end up sleeping very well: I kept waking up every couple of hours. I think I’m discovering that if I don’t exercise enough during the day, or don’t exercise soon enough before bed, I don’t sleep so well. Some schedule modifications may need to be made to address this…
On Friday I worked all day, then my friend came over for dinner and I made an aubergine thing that went very well. Saturday and Sunday were Surprise Hen Weekend days; we took one of my friends to a hotel in the countryside and pampered her with spa treatments and an excellent dinner. The rest of the guys went home on Saturday evening, but she & I stayed in the lovely Hurley House Hotel and then went for a walk around Henley-on-Thames on the Sunday, which was lovely.
When I got home I went to see some friends who needed computer help, then came home, called my mother, and went to bed.
