When I moved in to my flat, it was a mess. It remained pretty messed up for quite some time while I got my act together and saved enough money to start renovating properly.
Recently I have been working on the living room; and when I say ‘I’, I mean it’s mainly been other people. One of them is a very good builder / plasterer / general useful person who among other things has been restoring the bay window. (more…)

Possibly the most irresponsible yet joyful purchase I have ever made is a pair of 18th-century Gujurati columns which I found at The Old Cinema in Chiswick. It’s a fantastic place filled with beautiful things: for the Brightonians among you, it’s like a much better version of Snooper’s Paradise. (more…)
I’m cheating a bit with this post, because rather than giving you tips, I’m asking for them.
It’s been a while since I updated the list of things that still need to be done around the flat, so I thought I’d grit my teeth and work it out today.
Although I feel like I’ve hardly done anything, there have been a few very productive days, which means I’ve probably done more than I thought I’d achieved.
I’m having a bit of a phase. It’s a phase that might turn out not to be a phase after all, by which I mean it might well end up lasting forever.

The other day a Wonderful Thing happened with my flat. If you’ve been following the Flat Saga, you will know that Wonderful Things are not often forthcoming around here, so when they do happen I get Very Excited.
Now I’m going to stop using Gratuitous Capitals and start happy-screaming.
